How does a Hybrid Solar Power System work?

Hybrid Power Systems combine different energy sources with energy storage to create a single energy solution that provides continuous and reliable power. Let’s review what are common Hybrid Energy Systems (HES) and how do they work:

Hybrid Solar Power Systems graphic explaining how it works. A Hybrid Solar Power System is usually composed of solar panels, a battery energy storage unit and a small diesel generator. In this configuration, the solar panels are used as a primary source of power to charge the battery storage unit and directly power the crib or portable office when possible. Excess energy is stored in the energy storage unit for later use. The diesel generator is only used as a secondary power source, as a backup generator to charge the battery when getting low and solar energy is not available.

How Fuelfix Go-Greener Hybrid Power Systems deliver savings

Modular, scalable and dependable 24/7, Fuelfix hybrid power systems deliver operational efficiencies and savings over traditional standalone gensets via the following features:

  • Generator Size
A smaller generator is used delivering savings through lower operational costs.
  • Hours of Operation
The energy management system only engages the generator when the battery is low. With full charge the HESU15 battery can run for up to two hours before engaging the generator.
  • Fuel Efficiency
When engaged the generator runs at its most efficient load (75%), delivering fuel savings and extending genset life (approx . 3 times) through elimination of glazing.
  • Reduced Maintenance
Due to reduced hours of operation, maintenance and refuelling requirements are significantly reduced.
CASE STUDY Fuelfix Power Systems in Action

Delivering a reliable and greener Fuel Storage Solution for a mine

Peel region, WA VIEW PROJECT

A mining operator reached out to Fuelfix for their fuel facility extension project. The client required two new fuel storage and dispensing facilities to be strategically set-up in 2 different locations on the mine site.

Fuelfix introduced its hybrid-powered refuelling solution to facilitate the refuelling of heavy vehicles and machinery.

GOT A QUESTION?

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a hybrid power system?

A hybrid power system is a combination of multiple energy sources including renewable sources (like solar or wind) with conventional power sources such as diesel generators. This setup ensures a reliable and continuous power supply by balancing the strengths and weaknesses of each energy source.

What are the benefits of hybrid power systems?

There are several benefits using hybrid power systems over traditional power generators including reduced fuel consumption and operational costs, reduced emissions, and less operational requirements. They provide the customer with a solution that is durable, cost effective, ensure a reliable and continuous power supply with less noise than a traditional diesel generator. Fuelfix hybrid power solutions effectively only require a quarterly refuelling cycle and an annual genset maintenance cycle, enhancing safety on mining, construction and remote area sites with less personnel on site.

Does the hybrid power system uses a generator?

Yes, a smaller generator than the one used in traditional standalone gensets is used for Fuelfix Battery solutions, delivering savings through lower rental and operational costs.

How often does the generator works on hybrid power systems?

The battery only engages the generator when required.

How much can you save using a hybrid power generation system over a traditional diesel generator?

Using a hybrid power generation system can significantly reduce fuel consumption therefore saving a lot of money. Depending on the configuration, hybrid systems can save up to 90% on fuel compared to traditional diesel generators. This results in lower operational and maintenance costs as well as reduced environmental impact. The systems also offer safety and noise reduction benefits.
